The Jukebox Musical Jersey Boys Jumps into the Cape Playhouse July 5 – July 22

DENNIS, MA – The Cape Playhouse is pleased to present the Tony and Grammy Award winning smash hit, Jersey Boys. This international music phenomenon opens on July 5th with a three-week run through July 22nd. Based on the life story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Jersey Boys follows the fascinating evolution of four blue-collar kids who became one of the biggest pop music sensations of all time. Winner of four Tony Awards® including Best Musical, and the Olivier Award® for Best Musical, Jersey Boys unfolds the story of the foursome’s 40-year friendship as they worked their way from the streets of New Jersey to the heights of stardom, eventually receiving the music industry’s highest honor – induction into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame.

Book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice with music by Four Seasons member Bob Gaudio and lyrics by legendary music producer/songwriter Bob Crewe, Jersey Boys is a behind-the-scenes look at their difficult journey to fame and fortune. Told in four parts or “seasons,” each band member has an act to tell their side of this journey. Capturing the catchy sounds of the 60’s, the cast performs over two dozen of their infectious chart-topping hits including “Oh What a Night,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Let’s Hang On (To What We’ve Got),” and “Working My Way Back to You.”

This Cape Playhouse show features several cast members who have performed in the Broadway, off-Broadway, and Las Vegas companies of Jersey Boys. Starring in the role of Frankie Valli is Joey Lavarco, who made his 2007 Broadway debut in 13 The Musical. Joey was most recently seen in the Jersey Boys National Tour as Frankie Valli. Making his Cape Playhouse debut is Stephen Cerf as Nick Massi. Stephen’s Broadway and National Touring credits include Jersey Boys, Motown the Musical, Spamalot, and Rock of Ages.

Director/choreographer Joyce Chittick returns to the Cape Playhouse to direct Jersey Boys. In 2019 she directed the production of A Chorus Line at the Cape Playhouse and came back again in 2022 to direct the production of Grease. “Jersey Boys is one of those shows that speaks to people across all boundaries, no matter what their backgrounds might be. People from all walks of life can identify with the themes and situations in this show because they are universal to all of us as human beings.”

A Broadway veteran as an actor, singer, and dancer, Joyce has performed in thirteen productions and in nine original casts, including Anything Goes, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Sweet Charity. She appeared in the Roundabout Theatre’s production of The Pajama Game with Harry Connick Jr. and won the Fred Astaire Award for Cabaret starring Natasha Richardson. As the director, Joyce brings an insider’s perspective having played the character of Mary in Jersey Boys across from her husband and choreographer Rick Faugno as Frankie.    Following Jersey Boys (July 5-22), the Cape Playhouse presents An American in Paris (July 26-August 12), Camelot (August 16-26), and Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery(August 30-September 9).
