The health and safety of our audiences, artists, and staff are our top priority as we return to the Cape Playhouse this summer. Our policies will mirror our colleagues in Boston and Broadway who require, at this point in time, masks and vaccinations for all patrons. Please note we are monitoring this closely and our policy is subject to change prior to opening.
For the safety and comfort of all who attend our shows, we are implementing the following protocols until further notice:
All patrons, regardless of age, will be required to show proof of full vaccination for Covid-19 along with a photo ID or proof of a recent negative test (PCR test within 72 hours or Antigen test within 24 hours) when entering the theater. Guests over the age of 18 may attest to the identity of a minor companion.
- Vaccination Proof can be provided by:
- Showing your physical vaccination card
- Showing a photo of your vaccination card
- Showing a digital health record such as Mass.gov Vax Finder or MyChart
- Showing a digital vaccine attestation through an app such as Bindle, SMART Health Card or Excelsior Pass
- Proof of a negative test can be provided by:
- Appropriately timed testing center or medical facility report
- Appropriately time-stamped photo of a recent at-home test
Everyone is required to wear a well-fitted mask covering their nose and mouth at all times while within the theater. For your best protection, it is strongly recommended to wear an N95, KN95, or KF94 mask, or to double mask. The only exception to this rule is made for the performers while they are performing. Please note that our performers are tested twice weekly, as are the stagehands, running crew and Playhouse staff.
Seating and Concessions
Current guidelines do not require any physical distancing within the theater. All concessions sales will take place outside and no food or drink will be allowed in the theater.
At this time, we cannot permit any audience members to go backstage.
If you or any member of your party are experiencing any COVID symptoms on the day of your performance, please stay home and contact our box office for more information about exchanging your tickets.
All of our COVID-19 protocols are subject to change based on union regulations, local ordinances, and CDC guidance. Please keep an eye out for correspondence prior to your show with up to date information about our policies.

I thought MA discontinued the mask mandate?
We continue to require masks at this time for the safety and comfort of our staff, patrons, and artists.
What does “Full Vaccination” mean? Does that include Boosters?
“Full vaccination” is 14 days past completion of a primary series of COVID-19 vaccination (for most people, this is 1 dose of J&J, 2 doses of Moderna/Pfizer). We are not requiring audiences to have Boosters at this time, but we do encourage you to get Boosted if you are eligible.
What is the easiest way to show proof of vaccination for entry into the theatre?
Patrons can show their vaccination card, a photo of their card, or can show a digital vaccine record.
