ONLINE MASTERCLASSES FROM THE STARS

The Cape Playhouse, known widely for its legacy of bringing the brightest stars from stage and screen to Cape Cod each summer is now bringing the stars to your home. Coming to a screen wherever you are this October, Star Studio is a series of online theatre masterclasses taught by some of the best Broadway has to offer. A variety of classes in acting, dance, and even a double feature taught by a TONY Nominated Broadway director are offered for theatre enthusiasts of all ages and levels of experience.

The series will feature virtual courses every Saturday from October 3rd through November 21. All classes will run approximately 90 minutes to two hours and will have limited capacity to facilitate true, individualized attention from the Broadway instructors.

MUSICAL THEATRE AUDITION
$75/participant, 120 Minutes

Join Broadway veteran, and star of our 2019 production of Little Shop of Horrors, Andrew Keenan Bolger, in an intimate masterclass on how to nail your musical theatre audition song. The class will begin with a Q/A and then participants will present a 90 second cutting of an audition song. Andrew will coach each participant and help you find the tools to nail that next big audition!

 

Limited to 18 students. To participate in the class, you must currently be or have been enrolled in a collegiate level theatre training program. Once enrolled, you will be contacted for proof of training.

REMA WEBB
OCTOBER 10, 2020 - 12PM ET

COMEDY & IMPROV FOR KIDS
$65/participant, 90 Minutes

In addition to a Broadway career that has spanned over twenty-years, Ms. Webb is also the founder of On Broadway! a training institute for youth in NYC. Ms. Webb takes her years of experience as a Broadway star and shows students how to listen, observe and steal the scene! By exploring observation and cooperation, students will leave this class with greater self-confidence and an understanding of how to be a better actor from a Broadway star.

Jennifer Cody

THE MONOLOGUE FACTORY
$75/participant, 120 Minutes

Over the past fifteen years, Jen Cody has given memorable performance after memorable performance on The Cape Playhouse stage. In addition to her unforgettable Cape shows, Jen has performed in an impressive eight Broadway productions. So, if you’ve ever wanted to learn from a master, this is your chance! Participants are asked to bring a two-minute monologue that you will perform for the class. Jen will then dissect the monologue with you and coach you on your performance.

 

Limited to 18 students. 16 years or older. No experience necessary.

BEN CHAVEZ

A WHOLE NEW DANCE WORLD
$70/participant, 90 Minutes

At The Cape Playhouse, Ben Chavez recently starred as Juan in our 2018 production of Altar Boyz. However, he is currently traveling the country in the Broadway National Tour of Aladdin! Participants in this masterclass will have the chance to ask Ben questions about his career and for guidance about making it on Broadway. To start the class, Ben will take questions from you about being a dance and what it takes to be on Broadway. He will then lead you through a warm-up and teach audition choreography from Aladdin!

 

Unlimited participants, 10 years or older, no experience necessary.

Chad Burris

LAND THE LAUGH – FINDING THE HUMOR IN YOUR SONG
$75/participant, 120 Minutes

Since starring as William Barfee in our 2017 production of …Spelling Bee, Chad Burris has had Broadway audiences at The Book of Mormon, Frozen and Mean Girls rolling in aisles. Chad’s comedy masterclass will teach students how to land the laughs in your musical theatre songs. Before the class, participants will record themselves singing a short song. After a Q/A, Chad will coach each participant individually on their songs and will work with you to find those sidesplitting, belly laugh moments that make a performance shine!

 

Limited to 18 students. To participate in the class, you must currently be or have been enrolled in a collegiate level theatre training program. Once enrolled, you will be contacted for proof of training and how to submit your recording prior to the class.

Kay Trinidad
November 21, 2020 - 12pm ET

COME ON DOWN TO HADESTOWN!
$70/participant,  90 Minutes

Join Cape Playhouse Alumni, Kay Trinidad, in a masterclass on the hottest show currently on Broadway, the winner of the 2019 Tony Award for Best Musical, Hadestown! Kay played Marcy Park in our 2017 production of …Spelling Bee and is currenting starring in Hadestown on Broadway. This exciting masterclass will start by teaching participants the vocal music to the song “When the Chips are Down” and then Kay will lead you through the movement and choreography in the number. Kay will also open the class to a Q/A session where she will give you the scoop to what it takes to make it on Broadway and answer your questions.

 

Unlimited participants, 10 years or older, no experience necessary. Once enrolled you will be contacted with the sheet music prior to the class.

DOUBLE FEATURE WITH TONY NOMINATED DIRECTOR

MARCIA MILGROM DODGE
NOVEMBER 7 & 14, 2020 - 2pm et

MUSICAL THEATRE CLUB – RAGTIME!
$90/participant (includes both classes), 2 Hours each

 

Inspired by Oprah’s Book Club, this interactive musical reading club is for theatre lovers and theatre makers. Over the course of two sessions, participants will read through and dissect the script of the Broadway musical Ragtime together with Marcia Milgrom Dodge – nominated for a Tony Award for her direction of the musical’s revival on Broadway.

 

Participants will get a behind the scenes look at how a director first approaches a script and what secrets can be found in the text. Hear never before told stories of how and why scenes and songs were added or removed from the original version of Ragtime to the revival, and how this remarkable period piece relates to the world we live in today.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Masterclasses will take place using the Zoom video conference platform.
  • To participate, students only need a computer with video and audio conferencing capabilities and an Internet connection.
  • Classes will be led by the instructor and a moderator who will oversee technical elements. The moderator will monitor all activity during the classes, ensuring proper content, safety and that only those enrolled in the class are able to access the meeting.
  • To access the class, participants will receive a secure, password protected link that will grant daily access to the class. The moderator will assure that only those who have enrolled in the class can access the session.
  • Some of the activities will involve light physical activity. Therefore, we ask that all students wear clothing that they feel comfortable moving around in.
  • For Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Chad Burris’s classes, students will need to have an audio track of their song recorded to accompany their virtual performance for coaching.
