JASON GRAAE (Nathan Detroit) has appeared on Broadway in A Grand Night for Singing; Falsettos; Stardust; Snoopy; and, of course, Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? Off-Broadway shows include: Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (Drama Desk Nomination); Forever Plaid; Olympus on My Mind; and All in the Timing. His one-man show, Coup de Graae! Just won the 2006 New York Nightlife Award, and was listed in “Time Out – New York’s Top 10 Cabaret Shows”. Los Angeles credits include the U.S. premiere of Ragtime; Forbidden Hollywood; and Forbidden Broadway (Ovation Award); The Music Man at the Hollywood Bowl; and recently L.A. Opera’s The Grand Duchess, directed by Garry Marshall. CHUCK REA (Rusty Charlie/Ensemble) is thrilled to return to the Cape this summer, where he has previously been seen in 42nd Street and No, No, Nanette. He is also thrilled to return to Captain Frosty’s. Favorite roles: John Wilkes Booth in Assassins (Bay Area Critics Circle Nomination) and Riff in West Side Story. A proud graduate of NYU’s CAP 21 Conservatory, Chuck would like to dedicate this performance to his incredible family for always supporting him, his even more incredible and beautiful wife Natalie for being incredible and beautiful, and to his 15-year old self for playing Rusty Charlie in high school. RICHARD RUIZ (Nicely-Nicely Johnson) is proud to be making his debut on the Cape Playhouse stage. Regional credits include Albert Einstein in Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Theatre Virginia); Nicely in Guys and Dolls (Long Wharf Theatre); King Basilio in Life’s a Dream (Berkshire Theatre Festival); Lady Enid/Nicodemus in The Mystery of Irma Vep (Seattle’s Intiman Theatre); and Al Capone in Baby Case (Arden Theatre), for which he received a Barrymore nomination. Richard also appeared in the National tours of Man of La Mancha as Sancho Panza; Urinetown as Officer Barrel; and a European tour of Jesus Christ Superstar as King Herod. This past summer Richard appeared as Antonio in Two Gentlemen of Verona: The Musical, for the Public Theatre’s Shakespeare in Central Park.
BOB DORIAN (Arvide Abernathy) Since American Movie Classics aired its first double feature on October 1, 1984, prime time host Bob Dorian has introduced more than 10,000 films, hundreds of them emanating from landmark theatres across the country on AMC’s “Movie Palace Memories”. He was also Mr. Medwick on the most popular “radio show” on television, “Remember WENN”. A native New Yorker, Bob began his professional career as a Conover model and child actor, with appearances on “Suspense”, “Studio One”, and several other early television productions, mostly out of CBS in New York. Bob’s musical comedy career began with a touring Gilbert and Sullivan company. His regional theatre credits include Arvide in Guys and Dolls (TUTS, Houston; Fifth Avenue Theatre, Seattle); Ben in The Secret Garden (Sacramento Music Circus); Gerald Lanyon in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Paper Mill Playhouse); Henry Higgins, which he’s played several times, both in Shaw’s Pygmalion and My Fair Lady; the ghost of John Barrymore in I Hate Hamlet; John Barrymore in Barrymore (John Drew Theatre) and Count Dracula. He toured the country understudying Mickey Rooney in the title role in The Wizard of Oz.
WILLIAM RYALL (Big Jule) happily returns to the Cape Playhouse where he was last seen in On Your Toes. Most recently on Broadway he played the Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Other Broadway credits include: The Grinch in Seussical the Musical (original cast and recording); Me and My Girl (original cast and recording); Grand Hotel (original cast and recording); How to Succeed… (revival starring Matthew Broderick); High Society; Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public; Amadeus (revival starring David Suchet); and Chess (in concert). Bill won critical acclaim for his portrayal of Spats, the tap-dancing gangster, in the National Tour of Some Like it Hot, starring Tony Curtis. He played Senator Gallagher in Call Me Madam at the Goodspeed Opera House; Big Jule in Guys and Dolls at the Long Wharf Theater; the Auctioneer in the National Tour of The Phantom of the Opera; and was the understudy to Tommy Tune in My One and Only. Bill has numerous television and film credits, and is a graduate of The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (NYC). JOSEPH CORELLA (Liver Lips Louie/Ensemble) was last seen in the Broadway show, All Shook Up. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Joseph was featured in Disney’s hit movie, “Geppetto”, choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. He has performed from television, to commercials, to the stage with such artists as Usher, Vitamin C, Drew Carey, and “Spice Girls” Geri Halliwell.
ELIZABETH CLINARD (Agatha/Hot Box Girl/Dance Captain/Ensemble) is thrilled to make her Cape Playhouse debut in Guys and Dolls, having previously “hot-boxed” at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre and the Long Wharf Theatre. STEPHANIE LYNN NELSON (Gen. Matilda B. Cartwright/Hot Box Girl/Ensemble) is making her debut at the Cape Playhouse. She has performed regionally with Arizona Theatre Co., Fireside Theatre in Wisconsin, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Kansas City Repertory, and in just about every theatre in her hometown of Kansas City. NANCY SULLIVAN (Mimi/Hot Box Girl/Ensemble) is excited to be joining the Cape Playhouse this season. MARK MARTINO (Director) is an actor, director, and choreographer with extensive experience in theater, film, television, opera, and special events productions. Mark is delighted to return to the Cape Playhouse after directing last summer’s seaside romp, No, No, Nanette. He is also looking forward to returning in a few weeks as director and choreographer of Pete ‘n’ Keely, the tuneful off-Broadway Steve and Eydie hit, which reunites him with No, No, Nanette leading man, George Dvorsky (starring as Pete alongside his original off-Broadway Keely, Sally Mayes). Mark comes to Guys and Dolls having just finished directing another very different 1950’s NYC story – West Side Story - for Music Theatre Louisville. During the 2005 summer stock season, Mark was up and down the Northeast corridor as director/choreographer of Forever Plaid for the Tri-Arts Playhouse in Sharon, Connecticut, directing and choreographing the East Coast premier of Moby Dick – The Musical! for The Theatre Arts Centre in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and directing and choreographing Pete ‘n’ Keely at Maine’s Arundel Barn Playhouse. Mark served as Associate Director/Choreographer (with author Stuart Ross) for two 2004 productions of Plaid Tidings - first at the Tony award-winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park followed by The Cleveland Playhouse. Christmastime 2005 found Mark once again in “Plaidland” as associate director/choreographer for Plaid Tidings at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre in Jupiter, Florida. In the fall of 2004 Mark renewed a love affair with A Chorus Line as Associate Director/Choreographer for the New York University produced production of this landmark show at the Steinbach Theatre in New York City. Among Mark’s many other theater credits are: two seasons as assistant director in residence with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera where shows included My Fair Lady starring Noel Harrison, Paint Your Wagon starring Jose Ferrer, and Fanny starring Giorgio Tozzi. A season as resident choreographer for Indiana’s Wagon Wheel Playhouse where Mark’s work included choreography for West Side Story, Oklahoma, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. At the renowned Chautauqua Arts Festival at New York’s Chautauqua Institution Mark spent two seasons as a director/choreographer in residence. While there Mark conceived/directed/and choreographed the world premiers of his original musical reviews: Songs for a Summer Hotel: the Rodgers and Hart songbook, and It Only Takes a Moment: the words and music of Jerry Herman. For the Tri-Arts Playhouse in Sharon, Connecticut, Mark directed their 2004 critically acclaimed Hello Dolly! On the nation’s opera and concert stages Mark’s choreography has been seen in Mobile Opera’s 2005 production of Showboat, Verdi’s Macbeth for Chautauqua Opera, Man of La Mancha for Portland Opera and Orlando Opera, and under the musical direction of conductor Jack Everly, the choreography for Those Glorious MGM Musicals which has been on the pops schedule of most of the major symphony orchestras in North America including the Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Toronto, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Detroit, Ottawa’s Canadian National Symphony, and our own National Symphony at Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center. In the world of film and TV Mark’s work has been seen on NBC’s “Miss America Pageant”, the feature film Rock-n-Roll Hotel, and as director/choreographer of the nationally syndicated PBS Christmas special, The U.S. Chorus in “Count Your Blessings”. In the world of “business theatre” Mark has directed and choreographed industrial shows for clients ranging from cars (Oldsmobile) and money (Merrill Lynch), to hamburgers (McDonalds) and ladies lingerie (the BIFA spring fashion show).
JOHN MacINNIS (Choreographer) John was seen at the Cape Playhouse 2 years ago when he played Junior in On Your Toes. He just completed/choreographed High Society at the Shaw Festival in Ontario, Canada. Other credits include: choreographing two European productions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast that are currently running in the Netherlands and Germany. John also directed and choreographed “The Olympic Medals Plaza” at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah. From 1998-2001, he directed and choreographed the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, starring the Radio City Rockettes, including the first international production in Mexico City, Mexico. Other choreography credits include Beauty and the Beast (North Shore, Sacramento, Pittsburgh CLO); Damn Yankees (TUTS); Kiss Me Kate (TUTS); Once Upon a Mattress (Music Theater Wichita); Guys and Dolls (Seattle’s 5th Avenue); Danny and Faye and Honk (Helen Hayes Nyack).
STEVEN FREEMAN (Music Director) following Guys and Dolls Steven will be returning to Buenos Aires to musically supervise a production of Sweet Charity. He most recently conducted the world premiere of Cole Porter’s The Pirate, at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia. During the holiday season, he conducted the Los Angeles premiere of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and prior to that, music directed Side By Side By Sondheim at the Berkshire Theatre Festival. He has conducted Chicago, on Broadway, in addition to having musically supervised international companies in Montreal, Moscow, Mexico City and Buenos Aires. He conducted the New York premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s Saturday Night at Second Stage and was associate conductor for the four-year run of the Broadway revival of Grease. He joined the original company of Forever Plaid in New York and brought the show to Los Angeles where he received the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Musical Direction. He has also supervised the West End premiere of Plaid at the Apollo Theatre in London. Other New York credits include the Broadway revival of Damn Yankees, William Finn’s Romance in Hard Times at the Public Theater and 3 Postcards at Circle Rep. Regional theater credits include La Jolla Playhouse, the Long Wharf Theater, The Old Globe Theatre and Kansas City Rep. Mr. Freeman made his Carnegie Hall debut as guest vocalist in A Celebration of MGM Musicals.
SHAWN GOUGH (Associate Music Director) is a New York City music director, conductor and pianist who has worked with several Broadway productions including Annie Get Your Gun; Chicago; Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; The Drowsy Chaperone; The Frogs; Into the Woods; Kiss Me Kate; The Light in the Piazza; The Lion King; and The Music Man. Off-Broadway: Lincoln Center Theatre’s A Man of No Importance, tick…tick…BOOM! At Jane St. Theatre and Little Fish at Second Stage Theatre in addition to serving as Music Supervisor for the acclaimed Off-Broadway production of Shockheaded Peter. He has been a guest conductor with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, the London Symphony, the Portland Symphony, Associate Conductor for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes, and Music Supervisor for two all-star benefit concerts for “Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS”. As an arranger, producer and conductor, Shawn has worked with Carol Channing, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Jerry Herman, Henry Krieger, Susan Lucci, Liza Minnelli, Regis Philbin, Barbra Streisand, and Stevie Wonder, among others. He conducted the National Symphony for the 54th Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. and has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, “All My Children”, “The Today Show”, “Good Morning America”, the BBC, and Channel 4 in London. The Sunday London Times wrote, “Mr. Gough is impeccably attuned to every nuance of the performance.”
DAN KUCHAR (Scenic Designer) is happy to be returning for a 3rd season to the Cape Playhouse having previously designed Thumbs and last season’s No, No, Nanette. His most recent theatre credits are Accomplice at Two River’s Theatre Company and Mrs. Warren’s Profession at the Irish Repertory Theater. Other credits include: the world premiere production of Rupert Holmes’ Thumbs starring Kathie Lee Gifford and Dianne Canova at The Helen Hayes Theatre; The FeMale Heart; The Last Five Years; Company; Noises Off; A Life; Sleuth; Quilters; That Championship Season and many Off-Broadway and Regional productions including eight seasons of Big Apple Circus at Lincoln Center as well as their national tour, Oops! The Big Apple Circus Stage Show directed by Tony Walton. Dan is also an art director for film and TV recently working on the CBS series, “Monkey Love” and Steven Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds”, “Hide and Seek” and “You’ve Got Mail”.
JOSE RIVERA (Costume Designer) is thrilled to return to the Cape Playhouse for a 5th season after designing our hit productions of No, No, Nanette; On Your Toes; I Do, I Do; Swingtime Canteen; and Anything Goes. Originally from New York and currently residing in Los Angeles, you can see his work on The Soap Net Network with their hit show “One Minute Soap Opera”. He has designed and assisted on over 300 productions for film, theater and television. Recent credits include: the hit television show “Strip Search” for VH-1; the national tours of A Chorus Line; Gentlemen Prefer Blondes; and Groucho: A Life in Revue; the LA productions of Dames at Sea; Lend me a Tenor; and Man of La Mancha; and the Las Vegas hit shows, Thunder Down Under at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, and American Storm at the Riviera Hotel and Casino.
CHRISTOPHER S. CHAMBERS (Lighting Designer) Chris comes to the Cape Playhouse having completed his sixth season as resident lighting designer for American Repertory Ballet. Other recent credits include: Oliver! (Curtain Call Inc.); Beauty and the Beast, Dialogues and Exorcising Man (American Repertory Ballet); Candide (Boston College). Other credits: Dramatics NYC, Gallery Players, Choate Rosemary Hall, Manchester Ballet, Ram Island Dance, Dance Connecticut, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, Mount Washington Valley Theatre Company and Boehm Opera. Chris holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Connecticut.
